We have divided travelling within Madagascar into the 5 Regions illustrated below:

	Region 1	The Northern Region
	Region 2	The Western Region
	Region 3	The Eastern Region
	Region 4	The Central Region
	Region 5	The Southern Region

As most roads within Madagascar are poor, travel to each of the particular regions is recommended by Air. Although there are over 100 Airports in Madagascar, only about 30 are paved, the remainder being for light planes only. So transport between the various regions is at the best, unreliable and/or difficult. Additionally, most commercial flights originate from the capital, Antananarivo, situated in the Central Region. So, to maximise both your time and money, a knowledge of each area will assist you to plan your trip so it is confined to those areas that appeal to you the most.
